A 51-year-old Homestead man is behind bars after police say he attacked his longtime partner with a wooden bat, leaving her with life-threatening head injuries.
According to an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News, Jamie Michael Lane was arrested Tuesday after the violent assault inside the couple’s shared residence. Authorities confirmed he is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Argument Escalated Into Violence
Investigators said Lane and the victim had been in a relationship for about seven years and lived together for four. On the day of the attack, the couple allegedly argued repeatedly, and Lane became upset after the victim ignored his phone calls.
Police reported that Lane drove to the residence, knocked on the door, and demanded entry. When the woman refused, Lane allegedly kicked the door open and forced his way into the bedroom.
He was armed with a wooden bat when he entered, officers said.
Victim Struck Multiple Times
According to the police report, Lane struck the victim three times:
- Once in the forehead
- Once in the back of the head
- Once in the left arm, as she tried to defend herself
The victim screamed, “Stop before you kill me,” at which point Lane paused, fell to his knees, prayed, and asked for forgiveness. He then fled the home.
Severe Injuries Reported
Authorities confirmed that the victim was rushed to Baptist Health Homestead Hospital. Doctors diagnosed her with a left frontal hematoma and possible skull or facial fractures.
A neurosurgeon also evaluated her for a possible blood clot, which may require surgery. Police noted that her condition is being closely monitored.
A witness inside the home corroborated the victim’s account, strengthening the case against Lane.
Police Recovery and Arrest
Homestead police executed a search warrant at the residence shortly after the incident. Inside, they recovered the wooden bat, which had splintered during the assault.
The following day, Lane turned himself in to authorities. He now faces serious felony charges and is currently being held without bond.
